With the noexec switch set on the MiSTer USB mount, you won't be able to execute scripts or write saves. Here is an easy way to remove the noexec switch.
From the MiSTer Menu screen press F9 to login to Linux (F12 to go back to MiSTer Menu)
Username: Root
Password: 1
Type MC to launch Midnight Commander
Navigate up two levels in the file system.
Navigate to etc/usbmount/
Highlight usbmount.conf and press F4 to edit the file.
Scroll down to MOUNTOPTIONS="sync,noexec,nodev,noatime,nodiratime"
and remove noexec
Save and Exit
Reboot MiSTer and now the USB mount should be executable.
