Mel and Duck are daunted by the appearance of Shu, but Ron appears to believe in me.

Right on cue, Shu appears on the Moon Cradle to assert his role as this story's true final boss with Saphine and some broad named Monica along for the ride. His ultimate goal? To see how strong we are! If he believes we can't defeat him, then we stand no chance in protecting the Earth from the incoming shockwave, let alone any potential future threats what will inevitably come. And you know what? He's exactly right.
However, this -is- Shu we're talking about, and he likes to take things in steps rather than go for the sure thing right away, so he spawns in his weaker Granzon instead of the Neo Granzon and makes us waste time by foisting on the Alpha Numbers a gaggle of Ghosts and GilGilGans of the Mecha variety. (we still need to protect the Microwave station, after all!) As the fighting gets underway, Shu orders Monica and Saphine to retreat, knowing that he plans on dying here.
It's a looooong battle, and eventually the Numbers work their way up to the big man. Masaki in particular is naturally very fired up and ready to stick it to his archnemesis. Shu only puts up a passive resistance in Granzon before finally going all out in Neo Granzon, and this time he's serious. But so is Masaki, and he wants to make damn sure Shu's flower picking days come to an end today.
He and Koji work together to secure the final blow, ridding the Alpha timeline of the wrath of Dr. Shu Shirakawa once and for all. But there's no time to rest as the shockwave is inbound in minutes and everyone scrambles to lend their combined power to the Moon Cradle and power the Aegis Barrier. With the power of valor and cheese, the heroes successfully ward off the shockwave that threatens Earth. (rip Mercury and Venus I guess)
As to make sure everything is neat and tidy, the Aurgurmir reappears, though once again under the control of Sophia Nate. She's not long for this world and vows to use the last of her power to return all of the future characters, Sanger included, to their timeline before it's too late. With a quick exchange of goodbyes, the past and future Alpha Numbers dissolve once more.

So ends another SRW playthrough, I do love me some Alpha Gaiden. It came at just the right time for me as I was falling in love with the OG timeline and Alpha's alternate storyline with these characters mixed in with the canon stalwarts of other series in a neat looking PS1 game was what I needed to fuel my curiosity further. It's an old, janky game, but still maintains a lot of the charm the OG games have and serves as the beginning of the transitional point between the Classic and Modern era SRW. It has a great overarching story with lots of neat characters and plenty to play around with. Not as long as the other Alpha games and only a bit longer than a typical OG game. A real solid entry through and through, helped by the still good English translation patch. Definitely worth checking out if you have some SRW experience under your belt!
Thanks for watching, everyone! Stay tuned to bear the Crest of Z!
