9A week since this track's addition to Deluxe, and I feel this is the best I am going to push for.

Contrary to what most people believed given my history with this track on wii, I was actually highly anticipating MC3 as a part of The Deluxe DLCs. After seeing how well it had been recreated as a Mario Kart 8 custom track, and how nintendo have uped the visuals and music of retro tracks in the past. I was really curious to see how MC3 can be improved upon when brought to this game. I was genuinely looking forward to trying it out and tting it, as I believed it would be a huge refreshing break from the wii version, if not a replacement.
Unfortunately, I don't think I could've been any more wrong or let down...
"Improved upon" are the absolute last words I would use to describe this. The track is scaled WAY too big, and the evidence that nintendo were going to do this was staring me right in the face from donut plains and rainbow road. I can't believe I didn't see that coming! Both those tracks were heavily overhauled with regards to their textures and background details. Donut plains in particular is one of my favourite tracks for that in the entire game. By comparison, I don't think any less could've possibly been done for MC3. A few brick blocks and spectators, and that's it!?!? Then there is the music... THE MUSIC... If there is anything more underwhelming then the scaling or visuals of the track, it is this. No big Mario Kart band cover like I was hoping for, might as well have just been copy and pasted from Wii or 7. 😔
That being said, I still felt the need to give the track a good go. It's what I had said I would do if the track were to come back, and I felt like some of my perspective may just be me being adamant and too used to Mario Kart wii. If you can get over the scaling (or that sort of thing doesn't even bother you in the first place) then the track is alright to drive. Not good, but not really bad either. Watching the Deluxe WRs for the track is relatively satisfying as well. Like Toad Circuit, I started tackling MC3 using 10th on the leaderboards at the time, for reference. For me (just over an hour after the tracks were released), that was 1:33.867 by Cante. Now, I play this game by no means near as well as Mario Kart Wii. But I still like to think I can roughly pick up some routes and strats, and replicate them decently with enough time. This PB is the closest I could get to Cante's 867 in just under a week, and I am honestly not that proud of that.
Aside from the mental and emotional pain caused by my initial perspective, I found it actually physically hurt my hands to play compared to Wii. This is mostly thanks to me, and how vigorously I naturally moved the analogue stick. But even so, I was not expecting it to be as substantial as it was. Felt about as straining as Royal Raceway was back on Wii U, and that's not forgetting that that is bunny hop central!
Overall, I really don’t like this track. But we can't ignore the fact I've spent an unfathomable amount of time on the Wii version, and did get my hopes up for this a lot more then I ever should have. A full recording of me playing all of the new DLCs will be uploaded soon, with the rest of my opinions written up in the description. But to put it briefly, I am definitely not this harsh on the rest of the DLCs, and prefer this wave to wave 1 over all. 😁
