Albert Belle, a former MLB player for the Cleveland Indians, was involved in a notable incident on July 15, 1994, during a game at Comiskey Park against the Chicago White Sox. After suspicion arose that Belle was using a corked bat, it was confiscated by umpires and placed in their locked dressing room for post-game inspection. To circumvent the impending investigation, Indians pitcher Jason Grimsley undertook an audacious mission by crawling through the stadium's ceiling ducts to retrieve the corked bat from the umpires' room and replace it with a bat belonging to teammate Paul Sorrento. However, the switch was discovered because the replacement bat had Sorrento's name on it, leading to Belle's eventual suspension for ten games, later reduced to seven on appeal, when the corked bat was confirmed after being x-rayed and sawed open by MLB officials. This incident, known as "Batgate," became one of the more infamous moments in baseball history due to its cloak-and-dagger execution.
