[MMD] The Man without his Machine Gun
I couldn't help myself; having acquired both the 3D animation program MikuMikuDance and a lovely model of Laguna Loire for it, I just *had* to make a video of him with it. (Especially since I couldn't find a way to fit him into my FF dating game video earlier.) This, unfortunately, was the best I could come up with on short notice. I actually did very little here. I moved the camera around, manipulated AVI export files to turn the screen into a mirror, and added the leg cramp at the end, but otherwise it's all someone else's hard work. (I didn't even try to go in and fix Laguna's eyes or anything...though I never go in close enough for that to matter anyway....)
You have my solemn word that this is the one and only typical "I just thought I'd make him dance" MMD video I'm ever going to post. If I ever learn how to do the ripping and rigging thing, I might rip all the characters from FFVIII and re-do my "Dancin' Laguna" video with the real characters, but probably not, as that would be a ludicrous amount of work, come to think of it. (And given the quality of the 3D in that game, it wouldn't even look very good...although it would still look better than my attempt at drawing does.) I'm going to do another video that involves dancing--if I can get the last model I need--but it's more of a sarcastic/ironic music video than a dance video. More importantly, I'm not going to let MMD distract me from the Suikoden Radio Drama and the Suikoden II Drama CD: I'm making sure it's cutting into my gaming time, not my previously alotted animation time.
The Laguna model was ripped straight from Dissidia 012 and rigged up for MMD by Niladtherogue, the stage came with MMD, and I don't remember where I downloaded the dance from. (Somewhere off YouTube. It's called "Weeeeeek" or something like that.) The leg cramp animation was based directly on his leg cramp in Dissidia 012, so even though I animated it, I didn't really do much there, either. Should've left a bigger pause between the end of the dance and the onset of the cramp, too, but...I'm still having trouble adjusting to the whole 30 frames a second thing. (24 is film standard, and I usually use between 7 and 10 in Anime Studio, so...30 is really awkward for me.) While I'm crediting things...I have no idea where or even when I downloaded the picture of Esthar that I used for the background in the reflection. It's been many, many, many years. However, it looks to be a still from the CG revealing Esthar when you turn off the shield, so...it's basically just a screenshot someone took of the game.
Laguna Loire is the copyright of SquareEnix, and his theme, "The Man with the Machine Gun" was written by Nobuo Uematsu. This version of the music is from the soundtrack to the Wii game "Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon" or whatever it's called, and I *think* the arrangment was by Kenji Ito, but I'm not positive about that. I don't have any idea who owns the dance moves...or even if such moves can be copyrighted at all, per se.
EDIT--Regarding the Laguna model, Niladtherogue had taken down all MMD models, but Valforwing at deviantART has gotten permission to redistribute them, so you can now find this model at http://valforwing.deviantart.com/gallery/?q=nilad+dissidia#/d4ipd1w along with the vast majority of NIlad's other Dissidia models, items and stages. (It's a *huge* file...)
