MMD WIP "If I could tell her" (HELPPPP)
135Baby thing: TL;DR: Levi likes his boo and babu. He leaves babu with his new family after his boo dies in a car accident because babu makes him sad now.
So here you go for how the baby is relevant: As you all know, Petra got pregnant in "Attack on Heathers" (Slow clap for Levi on that one). Continuing the storyline and bringing it over to "Dear Evan Hansen", I had three options: Gloss over an abortion story, gloss over an adoption story, which would require a lot more explanation, or just have her keep the baby. So there was that bump (no pun intended) in the storyline for me to figure out in order to make the two plots connect like I originally planned. Also, how do I give Levi/JD a mom and a sister? So here's the plot of the transition between stories in bullet points.
Levi survives the explosion and recovers in the hospital (Seventeen reprise). Since the plot of the original AOT takes place a number of years beforehand, titan shifter-style regeneration has been utilized in the medical field (I'll go more into the science of that later. I actually have some plausible theories on that)
Petra reveals to her family that she's pregnant with the child of the guy who got injured "taking a bomb out of the school". Her parents see right through it, and decide since she's still a minor (Seventeeeeeennnnn), they want her to either have an abortion, give the baby up for adoption, or get out. They're not willing to care for a child with such severe mental illness on its father's side.
Levi, the same age as Petra in this timeline, has been taken away from Kenny (he let him have access to bomb stuff and other stuff that's manga spoilers) and brought to live with his biological father, who in turn, has remarried and had a daughter named Mikasa with his new wife. Petra shows up on their doorstep one day with her dilemma, and they take her in and the two mainly keep to themselves.
Remember the past life thing? Well, at this point, Levi remembers the majority of what happened AoT up until the end of season 1. He's not too fond of Mikasa with her "ErenErenErenErenErenEren..." thing. When he sees said smol Jaeger boy, he feels protective over him slightly (this is where it deviates from Dear Evan Hansen) so he lets Eren (who's mad crushing on all that Ackerbooty) do things like help him set up the crib, but other than that, doesn't try to get close to him and really kind of ignores him and any feelings for him to prevent another over-protective thing.
He doesn't want to get close to anyone, so he's kind of a dick in general to everyone except Petra, who remembers bits of her past life and death as well.
When Petra goes into Labor, Levi refuses to let anyone go to the hospital with them. (Eren is shown there to show in the story that he's lying about Levi caring about her.) and they come back a few days later with their newborn daughter, Anastasia, who they pretty much ignore the world to care for.
Fast forward a few more weeks, the summer is ending, and Petra goes out in a rainstorm to run some errands. Levi hears a knock at the door a few hours later. A police officer has come to ask him to help identify her body after her car hit a tree.
Levi is heartbroken. After the funeral, he leaves care of his daughter to Mikasa as he falls into a severe depression and the mental breakdowns he suffered in "Attack on Heathers" resurface.
Eventually, he loses the battle with mental illness, and that's where "Dear Eren Jaeger" begins.
