Modern Warfare II will require phone number verification
‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’ will seemingly require phone number verification to play the game.
As with Activision Blizzard’s recently released ‘Overwatch 2’ requiring players to register a phone number, the upcoming title in the ‘Call of Duty’ series looks set to follow the same path.
As stated in an article on Blizzard’s website, it details the phone number requirements that players will need to follow in order to have access to ‘Modern Warfare II’.
The site information reads: “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, newly created Overwatch 2 accounts, and newly created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare accounts require a phone number.”
It then adds: “Messaging apps like iMessage (iOS) or WhatsApp (iOS, Android) are not supported. Mobile phones with prepaid plans may not work with the phone notification service. Phone notifications cannot be used with Voice over IP, and VoIP numbers that are transferred to a local provider are not eligible for the service.”
The SMS Protect two-factor authentication system proved troublesome when it was introduced in ‘Overwatch 2’, with many players on prepaid plans reporting being locked out of the game.
Blizzard subsequently removed the phone number requirement for players who have been signed up to Battle.net for more than a year. However, new players will still need to provide a phone number meeting the requirements.
