Monster Rancher DX playthrough Part 1
2Not a great start today. My arm's in a lot of pain, the controlled died on me, losing what little progress I'd made on the arcade game, and then when I went to switch games, Twitch's web site was dead for a while. But once the dust cleared, I decided to try to play a gentler game. An RPG.
...Monster Ranger is not an RPG. Despite how many things say it is. It's more a management sim. Not that there's anything wrong with that, unless you keep hearing that the game is an RPG so you go in expecting something similar to other RPGs. There's no story here to take your monsters through. It's just about raising and breeding the best combatants for arena fighting. That's it. That's not a bad thing, I am curious to delve into these mechanics, but it just isn't the game I was hoping for.
As for the mechanics, I am pretty disappointed with the way they removed the CD system and put in a database that is WOEFULLY incomplete. I have several fairly major releases that don't show up in it. Compilations, sound tracks, foreign discs, none of them wanted to work right. And since I'm trying to limit my run only to discs I have, it's cutting an already limited pool even farther. Frustration. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
