Monsters, Inc. Scare Island (PS2) - 100% Playthrough ~ Part 1: Intro & Orientation
Did you know that Monsters, Inc had a prequel? If you said Monsters University, you'd be kind of correct. But the prequel I'm referring to is A2M's (or Behavior Interactive currently) Monsters, Inc. Scare Island aka Monsters, Inc. Scream Team in the U.S and Monster Academy in Japan. So that makes Monsters University a sequel to this game. Anyways, during 2001 & 2002, a ton of video game were made based on Monsters, Inc. Those being Monsters, Inc (the one that had the plot of the movie) for Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance in the U.S and Europe and then eventually for PS2 which only released in the U.S, Monsters, Inc. Scream Arena for GameCube in the U.S and Europe and this game which released on the PC & PS1 in the U.S and Europe and eventually PS2 which only released Europe. Unlike the other Monsters, Inc games, this one seems to be more well remembered and people consider this to be the better Monsters, Inc. game. What's my verdict on the game? It's a fun game although a bit repetitive. The locations you go to helps to fix a bit of the tedium. I decided to play the PS2 version simply because this version has some extras not found in the PC & PS1 versions. If they were in every version, I would have stick with the PC or PS1 versions, simply because the PS2 version is a just a lazy port of the other versions. While this version is the same as the other versions and contains more scare animations and better draw distance, the controls are worse in this version and while the textures and backgrounds are more detailed and higher quality, this port's lighting is very dark and looks very dull compared to the Colorful and Vibrant PC and PS1 versions, the models look very ugly in this version, there's less attention-to-details on the some of the characters and this version contains some bugs that weren't present in the other versions. Ultimately this version is not the worst port I've played, but the PC and PS1 versions are much better.
Anyways, The Orientation is the tutorial of the game. While it does a good job explaining the mechanics of the game, it's really long and kind of dull and it's not helped by the fact that Roz is the one teaching you the mechanics of the game. I don't hate her, but having to hear her for so long can get grating.
