This is part 1 of my capture of me playing through Moon Chronicles for the 3DS. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my New 3DS XL using the aftermarket capture kit manufactured by Katsukity and installed/sold by Merki. This is a downloadable title from Renegade Kid. I'm playing on normal difficulty.

My prior footage of this game suffered from an annoying stuttering issue, so here’s a new playthrough to fix that. The gameplay should be better as well.

Moon was originally released as a retail game on the DS back in 2009, but I only found out about the title a few years later through some sort of recommended DS games list. Although I considered picking up the title, I never bothered because I had plenty of shooters on the Wii to keep me busy.

After the DS and Wii were essentially replaced by the 3DS and Wii U, I noticed a stunning lack of shooters for both systems, especially Wii Remote FPS titles on the Wii U. I always had some interest in shooters that utilized touch-screen aiming on the DS/3DS, so when Renegade Kid announced a downloadable remake of Moon for the 3DS, I decided to give it a shot.

Moon Chronicles was released in an episodic format, but as I recall, it took several months for Renegade Kid to release the remaining episodes, which came out all at once, ultimately defeating the purpose. That meant I only got to play a short portion of the game before waiting several months for the remaining sections to arrive.

Overall, Moon Chronicles was a decent, albeit incredibly simple FPS that was worth the low price of less than $20. Sadly, the game doesn't have any multiplayer, but it runs at a very smooth 60 fps and has an acceptable amount of content. I mostly just enjoyed having a touch-screen FPS for the first time since Metroid Prime Hunters, as well as having something to play until IronFall: Invasion arrived.

This Moon remake was supposed to set the stage for a sequel, but apparently that idea was scrapped (probably due to low sales), and as I recall, the Renegade Kid programmers split up the company and went their separate ways, although they worked out some sort of deal regarding who would get to keep the rights to the different Renegade Kid games.

This game is rather straightforward, but you can unlock some additional missions if you collect all of the alien artifacts. They're always hidden in the tunnels that are only accessible with your robotic probe, so they're not too difficult to find. I will be collecting all of the alien artifacts in this playthrough.

In this first part I started a new save file and completed the prologue and chapter 1.

Recorded with OBS Studio at 60 frames per second. I'm using a New 3DS XL with touch screen aiming.
