Chas was originally intended to be in just one story where Morph carves a statue of himself which comes to life and starts a fight with him. Morph's creators, Peter Lord and David Sproxton thought he was a great character and the double act of Morph and Chas opened up many story possibilities so they decided to keep him. This is Chas's first appearance in Take Hart which was broadcast on BBC1 on 3rd January 1979.
