Mortal Kombat 1 Walkthrough: Very Hard + Reptile
With all the gee-whiz stuff introduced later (and right down to today), Mortal Kombat 1 remained perhaps the most tactical among the series. Magic powers, as well as regular moves, were often much more useful in defense and counterattacks, making the "button bashing" approach rather useless. It took some time to learn, but once one got the hang of it (learned to await an attack and respond to it), the game becomes much easier.
This run features Liu Kang, difficulty set to Very Hard, along with the secret match against Reptile (who would appear as a playable fighter in the sequels). Although playing Rayden is perhaps the most fun, at least for me, I've found Liu Kang much easier to play, particularly against the attack patterns used by the computer.
