Mortal Kombat 12 Character Art 2023
Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon recently dropped several exciting hints about Mortal Kombat 12’s roster on social media, such as which characters could return in the upcoming sequel. Fans have been speculating about the next installment of the long-running Mortal Kombat series ever since developer NetherRealm announced it was done adding new content to Mortal Kombat 11 last summer, even going as far as to suggest guest fighters like WWE legends Kane and Mick Foley. However, official details regarding Mortal Kombat 12 have been scarce so far, and the game was notably absent from last week’s Game Awards 2022 livestream.
While Mortal Kombat fans continue to debate over which fighters Mortal Kombat 12 needs the most, Ed Boon himself is shedding some light on the future game’s roster. Ed Boon took to Twitter over the weekend to answer questions from fans, as reported by ComicBook. Many of these questions were about characters from past Mortal Kombat games returning in MK12, and Boon replied that the chances are very high that Motaro, Cassie, Striker, Tanya, and Tremor could show up. Fan-favorite ninja Reptile was also teased with a response of "Good,” though Boon remained tight-lipped when asked about Kabal, Scarlet, Mileena, and Sareena. Finally, Boon noted that Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance’s Drahmin is “not likely” to appear in Mortal Kombat 12 as a main fighter.
This is far from the first time that Ed Boon has dropped hints about Mortal Kombat 12 on social media, as he recently suggested that NetherRealm’s next fighting game project would be either MK12 or the equally-anticipated Injustice 3. His later posts have leaned more toward the former, with Ed Boon teasing that Mortal Kombat 12 could bring back the popular Konquest Mode from past titles like Deadly Alliance and Mortal Kombat: Deception. However, these have only been suggestions, and Boon himself was the one to inform fans that NetherRealm’s next project wouldn’t be revealed during last Thursday’s Game Awards 2022 event.
Likewise, Ed Boon took care to avoid any true, definitive confirmations during his latest round of Mortal Kombat 12 roster predictions, answering most of them by telling fans to “stay tuned” for an official announcement from NetherRealm. While this phrasing doesn’t confirm anything, it does imply that NetherRealm is getting ready to reveal something about Mortal Kombat 12 or whatever the studio has in store for players soon.
In the meantime, it appears that plenty of popular characters from past Mortal Kombat games could return as playable fighters in Mortal Kombat 12 - with Reptile being a notable case given his absence in 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11. Only time will tell if Ed Boon is telling the truth about which characters will be featured in Mortal Kombat 12, so fans should probably take his advice and stay tuned for an official announcement from NetherRealm.
