Well, it's an improvement over the Sega Genesis due to the addition of missing elements from that version, especially audio. However, despite having better audio - they botched it by using the wrong music on the wrong stages lol. Didn't they have game testers who could recognise the wrong music was playing on certain stages? Anyways.. so the mixed up music is annoying. The load times, which aren't on the Genesis version, are annoying as well. It makes it easier to beat Shang Tsung though since you can plan a strategy during his morph loads lol. In this version, I was using the 6 button Activator controller for Sega consoles and yet Sub-Zero's slide was back + HK+LK (no BLK lol), so I was able to get to Reptile (who kicked my ass) without having to avoid using the slide, which was handy. I prefer the Genesis version over the Sega CD version because the stage music, though original (but interesting), is more consistant, also there are no loading times. As a teen back when this came out I might have liked the Sega CD version better because of the quality of missing sounds present. At the end of the day, the best Sega port of an MK game I've played is by far the Sega 32X version of MKII, such a shame they never went back and made a klassic MK 1 32X port.
