Shock demonstrates what we could be looking at for the MK Trilogy Playstation port we're getting on the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection. This is done using an old emulator ePSXe that has a specific plugin feature and frame management which allows you to set a forced frame rate without frame skip, and also essentially "fast forward" at the constant frame rate. Whenever the game reaches a "Loading" portion or screen, there are no frames here, so the flow of the game simply moves ahead and skips the actual emulated data loading.
There are still some issues with it like the in game sound occasionally crackles similarly to older versions of MAME, but it does make navigating the menus, continues, the Character Select Screen, Choose Your Destiny, etc, all very snappy and totally removes loading time essentially the same as the PC DOS version.
This also uses a modded iso of the game where the slowed down temp and off pitch MK3 music is replaced with what I believe is the MK3 PC DOS CD tracks, that are slightly recomposed to be more seamless during repeats. It makes for a much more arcade-like experience and once the new release is it, it will be interesting to see what they do exactly.
Shock shows Shang's morphing, which still has a noticeable stutter and misalignment with the ground, but otherwise instantaneous compared to the normal 5 second load times. Not to 100% of previous tests years ago. Also some Ladder run attempts with misc characters like MKII Kung Lao, MKII Raiden, MKII Jax, Baraka, Rain, etc. Future 1 credit completions to come as well combo tutorials.
