In Final Fantasy IV (aka Final Fantasy II) for the SNES, there's a super easy trick you can perform to underflow a character's MP value. This glitch allows Tellah the Sage to cast the Meteo spell in battle, which is awesome.

What you'll need to do is first use most of your MP, and yes in this example I'm using Tellah the Sage aka Cindy (don't ask me why I named him that). To be precise, you'll need just enough MP to cast one of your overworld spells, but not the other. So for instance, if Tellah has 5 MP, he can cast Cure 1 in the overworld, but not Cure 3.

Then, place the two spells adjacent to each other, so here I placed the Cure 1 spell right next to the Cure 3 spell; for those unaware, you can rearrange the positions of your magic spells in your menus.

Now in your magic menu, select the spell that you don't currently have enough MP to cast - remember, this must be a spell that can normally be used OUTSIDE OF COMBAT. Then, position your cursor on the other spell that you DO have enough MP to cast. In my demonstration, I had 5 MP and selected the Cure 3 spell, then placed my cursor on Cure 1, which was one space to the left of Cure 3.

Now what you need to do is move back to the original spell on the very same frame that you tap the A button. So here, I moved my cursor to the right (back on to the Cure 3 spell) just as I hit confirm. If you did it right, the game should allow you to cast the spell for which you do not actually have enough MP. Doing so will then cause your MP to underflow.

So here, I only had 5 MP but the game allowed me to cast Cure 3 which costs 18 MP. After that, my MP value had a non-digit character to represent something like 523 MP.

Afterward, I was able to cast the Meteo spell in battle, which costs 99 MP. This is normally not possible since Tellah's Max MP is only 90.
