Just an example of MP3's scan dash. A normal space jump doesn't make it to the other side.

The scan dash requires dashing very near the edge of a platform so that normally you would slide down VERY quickly below. But if you start the dash (quickly tap B) somewhere during the slide, the normally short, quick dash will actually float and get extra distance. The extra distance is shown in the video as the distance from where I land to the edge of the platform, since a normal double jump just misses the platform.
