Even before XBox, Microsoft was a bug game publisher. Most well-known for the Flight Simulator series of games, the company also released Age of Empires, Motorcross Madness, along with Midtown Madness, Fury, and of course, Golf. Microsoft Golf was largely a MS-branded version of the Links golf games made by Access software and licensed through by them. On the whole, there isn't too much to say about Microsoft Golf though. Golf 3 was a updated version of Golf 2 that ran on Windows 3.1, but updated to the newest Windows. The game made use of the DirectDraw graphics API, and the updated graphics showcased what the newest Windows was capable of. Golf 3 could hold its own against EA's PGA Golf. In the past, golf games were used to show off the graphics capabilities of the PC as each scene had to be redrawn with different angles while reloading those textures on-the-fly, making them the perfect benchmarking tool. However, by the middle 90's, the FPS's like Doom and later Quake filled in the benchmarking role. However, for those who just want a smooth game of golf (like yours truly), golf games like MS Golf fill that role perfectly. Now it's time to hit the greens.
