Muchi Muchi Pork! むちむちポーク - v1.00 - Loop1 ALL - Ikuo - 133.399.540pts
Whenever I go to one of the Fightcade offline events in Spain with all the CAVE cabs to enjoy for days, MMP is one of the games I end up camping a lot. How can you not love playing it after all, with its very satisfying medalling, lenient extends, and cute atmosphere? This year I even ended up playing a live run on the big scene with Momo : • 5th Anniversary - Day 4 - Muchi Muchi... which is also the first time I played a marathon run at a physical event like this. Pretty cool! I initially wasn't too keen on doing it when Tropical Bits suggested I go on the scene for a run, but I changed my mind and ended up glad he encouraged me to do it since it went really well and I was happy with the run.
I have a somewhat solid score/survival route with Momo that doesn't take too many risks and leverages her long bombs to safely tackle stuff like the stage 3 helis. I've always played as her but a few years ago, Gordito Del Sabor (another big MMP fan) suggested I try Ikuo when we met at Fightcade offline, and I was able to clear basically first try with her.(I already cleared with Momo before that) Wow.
Like Momo, she is also cute and fun so I wanted to play with her more and maybe get a home video recording with her. (Don't worry, here I am indeed talking about a 1CC run video hahaha)
For some reason I was not easily able to recapture the magic, and she felt much harder to consistently survive with. She seems a little bit slower, her lard attack has a little delay on start-up which can be horrible in very tight situations (and makes the st4 wind turbines section kinda annoying), and her bomb lasts a much shorter duration. Oops. How did I manage to beat the game easily the first time around and now I'm worse? I imagine the tools she has also make it easier to score at times. The tracking options allow better control of damage on boss parts, and the super thicc lard attack plows through enemies! Going for riskier score strats is tempting, and perhaps that is why I die way more. There's still a few sections that I find easier to survive with Ikuo, and that is the stage 2 pre-midboss ground green tanks (my Momo safe strats bomb there) and the terrifying giant purple planes in stage 4, as the big juicy peni---lard attack from Ikuo destroys them safely. It's still not free though! Just less potential for heart attacks hahaha.
I tend to get some MMP cravings after Fightcade offline is over, since that's the main occasion for me to play this, but since this month's shmup year on Shmup Junkies is 2007, I thought I could kill two birds with one stone : play that 2007 kamige and get that Ikuo clear on tape. On a side note, I fucking love how saying "on tape" always, inevitably, makes me think of old Twin Galaxies VHS tapes and whatnot lmao. But don't worry, I'll never get into Donkey Kong. Mario VS Donkey Kong, yes. Donkey Kong, no.
I got multiple runs that made it quite far and kept getting higher scores than my safer Momo PB, but I kept fucking up for this somewhere near the end. This run here is not even my PB since I actually had a slightly higher 136mil run • MMP Ikuo 136mil that game overed on final boss. A lot of the final boss fails are really dumb because that fight is not hard at all with the amazing Ikuo strats laid out by Pearl in his video guide • So, You Want to 1CC... Muchi Muchi Pork? I just didn't fully remember all the details, and had to check again after I was fed up with those fails. Watch his video and grab his strats, carry on, will soon be easy! Learning that pointblank lard attack deals a fuckton of damage, and especially so with Ikuo, was also an eye-opener. With all that info in mind, I had all it took to get that clear.
This run was decent but not the most solid out there. A big reason why this didn't end up beating my PB is because of two annoying medal chain breaks in stage 4. I was able to rebuild but that still cost me points in sections that are supposed to be super lucrative. Annoying as I could have possibly even beaten 140mil otherwise but oh well. As much as I'd love to spend more time with Ikuo, I'll take it! I started to feel a bit frustrated on that week-long grind and that's not what you want to feel when enjoying this very cool game. It was not even a long grind or anything (a week is fucking nothing really), but my expectations of clearing relatively fast got in the way, oops. If I wanna score seriously, the ceiling is much higher anyways so 140 or not is nothing compared to getting superplay-level scores.
