Multicloud for Developers: An Introduction
One cloud does not fit all businesses. In fact, nearly 85 percent of organizations use #multicloud environments. So, what is multicloud? In multicloud development, you use services from two or more cloud providers. That could be a mix of of infrastructure, platform, or software as a service.
Why are so many companies embracing multicloud? Some of the main reasons include:
- Avoiding being locked into a single vendor
- Increased security
- More choice to select the services you really need
- Access to new innovation, from whatever cloud
From a developer's perspective, the rise of multicloud development is driven by the widespread adoption of #OpenSource software.
When developing apps for a company that uses multiple clouds, there are a few key concepts you need to understand:
- Microservices and containers
- Data storage
- Automation
- Monitoring and logging
As more companies embrace multicloud environments, you'll need to understand these concepts (and more!). A good place to start your training is to build your open source skills b/c those skills can translate to any cloud.
We'll continue to give you the tools and content you need to succeed on your path to building technology that can scale to any cloud.
