Mum Tries Out OS/2 1.3 (1990)
In this episode, Diana tries out OS/2 1.3 from 1990. OS/2 was originally developed as a collaboration between IBM and Microsoft starting in 1985 as they wanted to release the successor to MS-DOS.
The version of OS/2 in this video (1.3) was the last version sold by microsoft before they broke away from IBM and focused fully on developing Windows which was proving to be more successful.
The original operating system line under the name OS/2 ran from version 1.0 in 1987 to OS/2 Warp 4 in 1996 which Diana has previously tried on OSFirstTimer, but IBM kept releasing patches and service packs all the way up to 2001 with OS Warp 4.52 being the final version IBM developed before selling their codebase to Serenity Systems who developed an OS called eComStation that was built upon the OS/2 Warp 4.52 codebase.
eComStation was developed from 2001 to 2013 but then In 2015, Arca Noay, LLC announced that they had secured an agreement with IBM to resell OS/2. They released the first version of their OS/2-based operating system in 2017 as ArcaOS, which is not Linux, Windows or Mac based and as of 2025 is still receiving updates and new versions.
