Kicking things off tonight on WCW Clash of the Champions: The WCW World Tag Team Champions, The Rock 'n' Roll Express will take on The Fabulous Freebirds, this time under tornado tag team rules. Since capturing the titles from The Freebirds in November, both teams have been losing the titles to each other after every championship rematch. Tonight, while The Freebirds look to win back the gold, The Rock 'n' Roll Express look to put away The Freebirds one more time and finally turn them away!
The Rock 'n' Roll Express have been seemingly unstoppable since capturing the WCW World Tag Team Championships. Just last week, Robert Gibson picked up a victory in singles action over one of his opponents tonight, Jimmy “Jam” Garvin. While Ricky Morton defeated the current number one contender for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship '88, Ric Flair '88 the week prior! The victories continued to pile up last night when Morton defeated Michael Hayes!
Interview from last night: Ricky Morton explains how he's now in a position to challenge the WCW World Heavyweight Champion '88 with his big victory over Ric Flair two weeks ago. Robert Gibson then brings up how he just defeated the WCW World Heavyweight Champion '88, Tatsumi Fujinami in a non-title match and is also now in a position to challenge the WCW World Heavyweight Champion '88.
However, The Rock 'n' Roll Express are tag team division wrestlers and these big victories prove that the WCW World Tag Team Championships are on-par with the WCW World Heavyweight Championships. So tonight, they plan on showcasing firsthand that they are the greatest champions in WCW!

Interview: Larry Zbyszko is displeased with his current position in the WCW rankings. He is “The Living Legend” and he yanked that torch from Bruno Sammartino, the greatest world champion of all time. Last night on WCW Saturday Night, he fell down another notch in the rankings when he lost a battle royal. Well tonight he has challenged Sting '91, WCW's franchise player. When Larry defeats Sting, not only will that wake everybody up to the greatness of “The Living Legend” but it will put Zbyszko one step closer to where he belongs, with world championship gold around his waist!

Up next: After months of battling it out in a very heated rivalry, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat '91 and “Stunning” Steve Austin look to finally bring an end to their war. “The Dragon” is already coming off of a victory over Austin earlier this month as well as a non-title victory over the WCW World Heavyweight Champion '91-'93 last month.
Can Steamboat close out this long rivalry with an emphatic victory over Austin before moving on to challenge for a world title? Or will “Stunning” Steve put away Steamboat and insert himself into the WCW World Heavyweight Championship '91-'93 scene by force? Austin is one of the lowest ranked competitors in WCW so a victory for him tonight would be colossal for him!
