The bad news is today is my 40th birthday. The good news is, I got a new baby and she's really great.

She and I were down in Grand Forks just over a month ago and got to see our good friends Dave Soroka and Nora Curiston. As Dave and I often do we sat down for our exchange of songs...but as I've heard almost everything he's wrote (even though he's wrote a thousand songs) and he's heard everything I wrote that I can still remember (even though I wrote 300 songs)...I decided do things a little differently this time.

I let Ali McCormick and Dave exchange songs instead so they could fall in love with each other. What did I do? I grabbed some of my favorite Soroka songs off his pile and began scribbling the words into my book. Now I can firmly say that I can play several great Soroka-songs without the man even present...without a CD even playing.

I have to also add that neither Dave Soroka or myself have experienced a birthday breakup. Maybe I've had awful times on major days, but certainly no birthday breakups for either of us. I think he just thought it was a good song idea, and it is.
