On Bowron Chain - Joey Only (NEW)
The Bowron is a chain of lakes near here where a great many First Nations people once lived. Now it is a provincial park that people pay to canoe through, it's where they go to feel like they are in touch with nature. As beautiful as it is, they are in touch with a lie.
I worked in the back country there and would be haunted by the idea that this one island in Spectacle Lake actually acted as a quarantine when the epidemics came through in the 1860's.
What is now one of the most fantastic wilderness mountain parks one could canoe on, was once a thriving community. Where white people from the city go with tilley hats on to relax is a legacy of genocide. I once even caught German tourists pretending they were natives by having phony ceremonies.
This country is a beautiful land of colonized contradictions.
