This Kassadin build began in Season 5 with Kassadin's biggest nerf where his R range was halved, but mana cost of his R went down. Taking advantage of this, I maxed out on mana, durability to somewhat counteract the range nerf, and channeled it into a Muramana for superior DPS (and as it turns out, burst pre-level 16). This lead me to have a lot of success with Kassadin at this time when everyone claimed the champ was dead and he kept getting buffs over the next few years.

It wasn't the best through the Mythic season of 11 through 13, but with Season 14, with more mana options like Rod of Ages and Malignance, he's totally back. Of course, you COULD skip those entirely and not have any AP. It still hits quite different.
