The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is by many considered the pinnacle of the era where 2D games still held the crown. And obviously, that means many people consider Nintendo's first party titles for the system equally as important. So for the next four weeks we're going to be taking a look at several SNES games, and seeing how they hold up today.

Next up is Super Metroid, which was an early refinement of the still fairly fresh (and not yet named) genre of Metroidvania. It's praised for its atmosphere organic storytelling, strong female protagonist, and freedom through level design which includes infamous sequence-breaks. But is the game still great today? Or does everyone have nostalgia-goggles on? Let's find out!
