This game originally arrived on the PS3 in June of 2008. I was just getting my life back together after having spent pretty much the past year out in the field doing systems integration. It was nice to be back home for the summer. I was definitely playing games, but this one did not pop onto my radar. Mainly because, quite frankly, it is not that good. But, admittedly, it's also because I was never a big fan of futuristic racers or weapons-based racing games. Mashing those two styles together was a guaranteed way to keep your game from ever entering my radar horizon. But since then, I got introduced to Wipeout because Sony gave it to me for free, and I've latched on to the likes of Blur, which has endeared me to weaponized racing games. So I can stomach this sub-genre way more than I ever could in my pre-married gaming life.
Still, while the premise of this title is solid, it leaves much to be desired in terms of generating moments of excitement and immersion. The lack of visceral weapons combat is palpable, and I spend much time on the track with no other car within a 1/2 a click of my car, which means those weapons just go to waste on some occasions.
It's a very workman like game, which means that what awaits is just putting in time. I'm going to keep at it at least for its full gaming session before I roll, but I do not have high hopes that there is a lot of surface that I can scratch through. It is what it is for certain here. Gotta be..right?
