Here are the games I played the most for the Week of 06-27-2010

My AC went out earlier this week, and in AZ, AC is a must. So I had to use a backup window unit, and didn't play much of my new expensive consoles until I fixed it. So I played a lot of N64 this week.

Looks like it was another mainly FPS week for me. I usually try and get more variety.

BattleTanx: Global assault (N64)-

Played the multiplayer in this one. It's always fast fun, and furious. It's a blast to play (no pun intended) with friends or by yourself. Just mindless mayhem. It also has a Single player campaign which was taken out in the "sequel" (WDL: Thunder Tanks).

Blood II: The Chosen (PC)-

This is one I've wanted to play for a long time. I found a copy at Bookmans the other day, so I bought it. The lithtech engine seems to have trouble on more modern systems, and sometimes the game bogs down. This was, however, easier to run the Shogo was. Overall, it's not the greatest FPS ever (though some fans would disagree), but it's pretty good. I'm happy with my purchase so far. Some day I'll have to get the original as well.

Sorry for the loud volume. the free fraps I have doesn't record the sound.

Disruptor (PS1)-

This is another Bookmans purchase. This comes from Insomniac games, and is a pretty good old school FPS game. You get special abilities throughout the game called psionics that gives you new attacks, or healing abilities. It's an interesting twist on the tried and true formula.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64)-

Once again, I've never been particular fond of this game. I know it's a good game, but I was an avid fan of LTTP (easily the best game in the series, and one of my favorite games of all time), and just felt let down by OOT. It just didn't feel like a 3D Zelda to me. I could go into it further. Just don't quote review scores to me trying to convince me why it's teh greatist gam eva. I've played thorough it multiple times, and it's growing on me more as a game.

I'm actually playing the N64 version which I recently bought with intent to re-sell. I've already got the Collectors Disk on the Gamecube anyways.

Perfect Dark (N64)-

I played a little SP, but mainly played the multiplayer. Now that I look back, I have to be honest, Perfect Dark is extremely overrated. I loved it at the time, and still find it to be a good game, but even for it's time, it wasn't the greatest FPS game of all time. Sure it added bots over Goldeneye's (and GE is my favorite N64 game, and deserves credit for what it did for console FPS games, but it too is overrated) MP, but games like Unreal on the PC already had them long before. Then it's MP while fun for it's time, is extremely choppy. Being a console-only gamer at the time, I though it was great, but in the big picture, other FPS out at the time left PD in the dust. Furthermore every time I play PD's MP now it only makes me long to play Timesplitters. I think people are more in love with the memory of PD than they actually were with the game. I haven't played the remake on Live, but I can easily suggest it over the N64 version assuming they fixed the framerate. It's SP experience in the 64 version is still good though, but it's MP, and that damn blur are dated.

Timesplitters: Future Perfect (PS2)-

The TS series is the true sequel series to the Goldeneye/Perfect Dark Crown. It fixed the problems of PD's multiplayer, and in TS2, and TSFP, it even added a better Single Player mode. The Timesplitters series is probably my favorite console FPS series. It's a different style from Halo, but it's got so much more to it. Tons of unlockables, and a map editor. Like I said, the SP is more like GE, and PD, but the multiplayer is where it truly shines. Yes, I just did dis PD's multi, and then build up TS' MP. It just fixed all framerate issues, and so many other issues. Then it took the idea of the challenge modes from PD, and again improved them. It perfected the play style of GE and PD. Even before PDZ came out, people were begging for a sequel, but we've had the real sequels for years in the form of Timesplitters. Nothing Rare does with the PD franchise will ever come close. PDZ was living proof the the best designers in Rare left for Free Radical (may they rest in Peace) years ago.
