My Hero, 1985 Coreland/Sega
Weird little Kung-Fu Master ripoff taking place at a Japanese high school on the first level, a ninjutsu dojo on the 2nd and a futuristic setting run by apes in space suits (!) on the 3rd. At the end of each long level awaits the boss who kidnapped your girlfriend. Be aware that you do NOT have a life meter until you reach the boss, so any hit you take costs you a life! Be sure to connect with each attack (standing punch, jump kick, low kick) as you make your way towards the boss; other dangers are folks that drop bottles from windows (though you can attack the bottle and send it flying to take out some enemies for you), bouncing spiked balls, fireballs, flying bombs, etc. When you finally reach the boss he's actually not that difficult to beat.. as long as you DON'T STAND STILL CLOSE TO HIM, even after a successful hit on him! He can pelt you with a barrage of attacks, filling up your damage meter (and yes, you get one only when you face the boss). 2 damage meters that appear when you face the boss are signified by hearts (the meter you want to fill up to beat the boss) and skulls (if this meter fills up you die!). Jump kicks are what I would recommend using. Though you can once in a while sneak in a kick or even standing punch, it's best to for the most part keep jump kicking.. the boss will keep dodging but be creative with the jump-kicking and you'll eventually land. Using another attack too often can lead to the attack barrage mentioned before. After besting the boss, you actually try to console them as you cry in shame! You seem to be saying, "Cheer up! Look at that lovely sunset!", as they bawl uncontrollably.. then the next level's boss steals your girlfriend and you move on to the next level. A total of 3 levels repeat when you beat the cycle. Weird Kung-Fu Master ripoff that may appeal to fans of Japanese weirdness.
