August 31st,

It's early. The sun has barely risen above the horizon, but since I'm here waiting for Professor Fits, I figure, I might as well start my first journal entry, but Don't worry. It's invisible ink so that no one can read our secrets.
I have been thinking a lot about Hogwarts, and frankly, I don't know who's more excited, me or my parents.
Being born into an old English pureblood wizarding family, I grew up with only the highest expectations. Even though I never admit it, I feel ill-equipped trying to live up to them.
The perfect word to describe me when it comes to my family is different. I might as well rename our black sheep "William" because, in my parent's eyes, that's what I am. That's all I am. At every party, ceremony, function, or outing, I'm always in the wrong despite my best intentions to fit in. Like when I tried to catch the Billywig, my sister, Wynona, had let out of its cage or when I got caught cleaning up after her temper tantrum threw every object across our friend's bedroom. These events were "somehow" my fault. I'd try to explain, but my words would fall on deaf ears. Nothing mattered. I kept my distance from her for a time, but unsurprisingly it didn't change anything. I was the oldest. It was my responsibility to keep her safe and out of trouble. In short, I should know better. I question why everything I touch becomes a problem while seemingly Wynona could do no wrong.
But that's not the reason I feel different, not entirely. My family has "certain" traditions and values they hold dear, and if they ever find out the truth about me, I shudder thinking about it. I wish I didn't have to be this way, I want to be normal, but I can't. I'm gay. I have and will never tell a soul. I know what would happen. My family would shun me, people would turn their back on me, and I'd be left alone. I don't know why that thought scares me so much. I spend most of my time alone anyway, but I guess telling the world about me would finally give them the ammunition they would need to confirm their beliefs about me were right, and I will do anything I can to prove otherwise.
Before coming here, things were more disconnected than ever. Whenever Wynona wasn't around, the silence was deafening. I could barely take it, so it wasn't a surprise when my parents shipped me off the Hogwarts. If anything, it was a relief. They, of course, sent me here to learn how to craft magic worthy of the "Asher" name, and hopefully learn how to function adequately in wizarding society so their torturous job would be over. For me? This is a true test to see if I can inch closer to discovering who I am without their dark cloud hanging over me while continuing to hide my deepest secret. I believe I am ready. I feel ready, but only time will tell if this will be good. I'm off to see Professor Fits, so I am signing off for now. Wish me luck! - William

September 8th

The first week at Hogwarts has passed in a blur. There is so much to learn. The castle's massive and full of secrets, but despite all that, not to mention everything that happened at Gringotts, I can't stop thinking about Natty and Sebastian. It sounds weird to say, friends. I've never really had a real friend before. We're still getting to know each other, but all in all, things look promising.
I know Professor Fits told me not to tell anyone about the ancient magic and that goblin Ranrok, but something tells me I can trust them. Natty has been so supportive, and Sebastian-- I still can't find the words. I've never had someone take the fall for me like that before. I haven't had a chance to thank him properly. I guess I'm still in disbelief.
They both seem nice, and I hope they don't prove me wrong, unlike my parents, who are so fond of doing so.
Anyway, I am getting off-topic, yesterday I went to Azkaban, Azkaban! I am trying to right a wrongful conviction, but after visiting her, I don't know if it will make much difference. Heaven knows how long she has been there, desperate for someone to hear the truth and no one to listen. I hope I can help her. I want to help her. That's it for now.
