Myst 3: Exile 4k 60fps upscale test (waifu2x → DAIN)
3This is a test of using some off-the-shelf tools to upscale a cutscene from Exile into 4k 60fps.
In this attempt, waifu2x-caffe's CUnet model was used to upscale and de-noise the frames BEFORE feeding it into DAIN. Unfortunately, DAIN can't reasonably handle 4k footage: not only does it take almost two minutes to render a single frame, but consumer graphics cards don't have anywhere close to enough VRAM to handle an entire frame at once. As a result, DAIN was forced to handle each frame as 16 sub-frames, resulting in heavy artifacts whenever there's fast movement that covers more than one sub-frame in a very short time.
