5The last stage has us fighting Zoda, twice! Though the first one...isn't really very difficult. He makes up for it with the second form, though. Also the stage section is kind of blah, though I think that was my fault for thinking I could jump over something I couldn't. But Zoda Final is a pain to hit, his touch insta-gibs you, and you can jump into a pit. Joy.
Ultimately, I wouldn't call this a bad game, but it's an average game marred by bad decisions. Punitive level design that punishes you for exploration, puzzles that hide things from you or demand knowledge that you wouldn't necessarily have, squirrely controls that inhibit combat, and a combat system that compounds punishment if you're not doing well...it all detracts from the game. And even for an NES-era game, the narrative is pretty ridiculous - I can appreciate silliness, but it comes off as so forced and nonsensical that it doesn't work.
There is a sequel, yes, I don't know if I'm going to play it or not. Maybe if someone makes me.
