Joseph's story begins at nearly the 6th century when the Orenian soldiers are on the hunt for him in Masad. To escape to Lenele and find the teacher, Yago, he must use any means necessary to reach Yago even if it means having aid from unlikely allies like Flece the thief who works for the prince of beggers, Tancred.
