Strong title for the Sega Vic-Dual hardware (Carnival, 005, Borderline, Tranquilizer Gun, etc.) involving submarine warfare. You control your ship in the bottom 1/3 or so of the screen, having to watch out for a multitude of threats at once, evading torpedoes from above or left and right, or trying not to collide with nearby subs. You can fire above or left/right at enemy subs with 2 fire buttons-- and get this; you appear to have the surface of the ocean just above you, but there are clearly subs or boats well ABOVE the surface! Huh? At any rate.. your goal is to take out the groups of black boats that slowly move onscreen (your firepower can reach all the way to the top of the screen); one group moving right to left and once eliminated, another group moves in a circle and you must eliminate them to advance to the next round (with a mermaid flag appearing between rounds). Bonus points are given for the elimination of a group of black boats fairly quickly, or for taking out the mystery ship. The mystery ship is worth varying bonus points, and drops a large missile that tries to follow you and is inconsequential if you let it hit the ground. Note that detonating torpedoes fired by the enemies release a blast radius that can take you out if you're nearby. Also note that enemy torpedoes can help you out by taking out enemies for you! The enemy subs near you are the most dangerous since they can fire more quickly and expressly follow you, and even try not to get shot by you! Fortunately they can only shoot left and right, thought they can shoot behind them without turning! These threats amid all the falling torpedoes from the boats/subs make for a busy but engrossing challenge. Give this undiscovered little gem a look.
