NASA and SpaceX work to avoid collisions in SPACE
Space is getting crowded... say what? But how? Well, we're specifically referring to the low earth orbit where these LEO satellites, like Starlink satellites, soon to be Amazon LEOs, China, and OneWeb all share the road so to speak.
Of course, there is always a change for a close call, or a conjunction to occur.
That's why NASA and SpaceX have signed a formal agreement to work together to avoid any collisions.
It will be on SpaceX to use its autonomous maneuvering system to steer clear of NASA inventory.
I spoke to Harvard astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell about why this is so important to reduce this type of collision and why he believes as more LEOs are launched, this will be a more difficult issue.
