National Science Day is being observed today. It was on this day that nobel laureate Sir C V Raman came out with his much talked about "Raman Effect". National Science Day is held every year on this day to commemorate this importance scientific milestone. The Raman Effect led to the growth of a new discipline, Raman Spectroscopy, which has now become a powerful tool for a wide range of scientific investigations and industrial applications. He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for the phenomenon called Raman scattering.
On the first celebration ceremony of the National Science Day in India, the National Council for Science and Technology Communication had declared the institution of the National Science Popularization awards in order to recognize an excellent and wonderful endeavor in the field of science communication and popularization.
