So that his daughters might be safe, Ned Stark makes a false confession to crimes he did not commit, and states that Joffrey, of the House Baratheon, is the true King of Westeros. Joffrey states that his mother Cersei wishes for Ned to be sent to the Night's Watch and guard the Wall, and that Sansa Stark has similarly pleaded mercy. Despite this, the new King orders Ned to be executed, to the shock of Cersei and the horror of Sansa and Arya.
