I decided to look back once more at the Need for Speed franchise, to really determine where I felt the modern games had experienced such a disconnect with their audience. I looked into my feelings about each one as well, and determined that Rivals was the last one I truly enjoyed. Despite its warts, it was a good direction to go into, with the open world and online cop and racer dynamic working well in Hot Pursuit too. Just a shame they did not follow up on it.
