I'll be upfront, beating NeedleMan without taking damage requires a good amount of luck. I'll try to provide a few useful tips in this video but ultimately you'll have to get a feel for all of his attacks and come up with your own ultimate way to dodge them. Experiment and use whatever you feel comfortable with. My tactics might not work for you.
Ultimately, he's a frickin' spaz and he's difficult. But as you fight him, you'll develop ways to dodge some of his attacks effectively.

His 3 attacks (Not counting his erratic jumps in which he doesn't throw anything at you):
- High Jump + Needles
- Short Jump + Needles
- Headbutt

Things that you can't do anything about:
- When he jumps right in your face + Short Jump & Needles
Extremely hard to get out of. If his initial jump in your face doesn't hit you, his volley of needles will even as you try to switch sides with him. If he does the High Jump, then you can get the hell out.
- When you're against the wall, if he jumps a couple of tiles in front of you + Short Jump & Needles
The problem with this one is if he jumps close to you, he usually does a headbutt, which you should react to by jumping. But in this case he does the Short Jump + Needles. You can't run away and even if you try to slide under him, Needles will get you. X(

Needle-Dodging strategies:
- At long range - Try to remain at 3/4 screen distance from him and dodge with simple jumps.
- At mid-range (1/2 screen) - If he does the high jump, when he fires the first needle, I like to slide forward and then slide back right away. If he does the short jump, I like to dodge with jumps as he is going back down after he reached the apex of his jump.
I prefer to not go further than 3/4 screen distance from him. If I'm too far, I tend to get hit by the needles because the timing isn't right for me.

His headbutt is easy to dodge with a simple stationary jump and he usually does it when he jumps straight in your face. He also usually jumps over you right after he did it.

Of course sometimes he won't do exactly these things. Sometimes he will jump next to you and then do a short jump needle attack instead of a headbutt.
Sometimes he will fake you out by doing a single short jump without attacking.
This Robot Master messes with you a lot.
At 0:06 you can see the insane mind games going on between me and him. lol I kept expecting him to do the short jump attack, the headbutt or jumping right at me. And he only did the high jump attack a bunch of times. This is a good example of being lucky. :)
