NES Alphanumeric! #027: BIGFOOT + CONTRA
1I'm blind running my way through my personal collection of NES games in alphanumeric order, from 1943 to ZEN THE INTERGALACTIC NINJA. I stream gameplay live at least once a week, usually WedNESdays from 10–11 p.m. ET., and sometimes on Friday nights. My commentary may cover writing, parenthood, gaming, life... whatever. POST-STREAM THOUGHTS: This is one of those games that if I had rented it back in the day, let alone purchased it, I would have wanted my money back. BIGFOOT is essentially a series of races (top-down) and minigames (sidescrolling) with a control scheme that varies in each and relies heavily on the D-pad to ensure your thumb is aching after oh, say twenty minutes. The race levels are reminiscent of Excitebike and R.C. Pro-Am, if they were mashed up and broken. Playable, but not exactly fun. The side-scrolling challenges are exercises in pure frustration. I'm not likely to ever want to play this one again. After my game glitched (not always a bad thing), I switched to CONTRA, which was much more enjoyable.
