I create a Bard for my next series of modules, like my previous two characters he is designed for an eventual multiclass to Arcane Archer.
Bardic magic is mainly centred around buffing and crowd control, with charisma as the casting stat, I gave him just enough to eventually be able to cast the max level Bard spells. Dexterity is the other key stat for this character and with the lack of offensive spells will probably be the most important as he will rely on his bow a lot, this will be the most boosted stat as he levels up. The next two priorities were strength and intelligence. I gave enough strength to make mighty bows worthwhile and enough intelligence to keep the good Bard skills maxed (mainly Tumble, Use Magic Device and Perform but as a caster I always boost Concentration as well) with a few points to spare. Finally constitution and wisdom, not super important for a ranged Bard with good AC, so I left them average.
I originally created this character for the Winds of Eremor but it's a level 5-15 module and was too much for this level 1 character on very difficult. It has infinite respawning enemies and limited ammo, not a good combination for a ranged character with 6 HP, so I switched to the Forest of Doom instead.
