Neverwinter Nights EE - FF3 - The Forest of Doom (Blind, Very Difficult)
FF3 - The Forest of Doom played blind on the hardest difficulty using a bard archer. This is an adaption of Ian Livingstone's Fighting Fantasy gamebook classic and was created by Alistair Davis and Simon Osborne. It's a full playthrough from beginning to end. The main story is a quest to retrieve a dwarvern hammer, lost in the dangerous depths of Darkwood Forest.
I am familiar with the gamebook and have finished it multiple times, this is quite a different experience, though does feature a lot of the book's content. The creators took the map layout of Darkwood Forest and most things in it, then tried to build it in Aurora. There are a few extra areas and events, but for the most part it's faithful. If you know the book you can anticipate what will lie ahead, although the book is linear and a NWN map generally allows for open exploration, which is where the main difference lies. You can experience events in a completely different order to the book and backtrack as much as you like, you've reached Stonebridge but want to go all the way back to Yaztromo’s Tower? no problem. The module even encourages backtracking to a certain degree, which also means that unlike the book, you can see everything in a single playthrough.
If you haven't played the book then some of it could feel arbitary, why is there a barbarian randomly staked down in a field? what was the point of that ape man treehouse? why is there a throne out in the middle of the forest that damages me? etc. If you do know the book however, it's novel to just explore and see what they included, though there are rude interruptions from respawning enemies (not from the book) which can frequently ruin your day, especially on a high difficulty.
This is the first adventure for this level 1 character but he will be having more, playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0oLoNHDuXcaKGwe_dYMbZIqFfuy5uwhv. I've left everything in so includes all inventory management, shopping, levelling etc. Skip at your leisure, timecodes included.
