New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja (Nintendo Switch) Full Playthrough: A Route
Contra meets Flinstones, I guess.
The late 1980s gave us all of the ninja video games. The early 1990s gave us Jurassic Park, which led to a pop cultural resurgence in the retro caveman aesthetic.
Data East's original arcade game, Caveman Ninja, combined two great tastes into a side-scrolling platformer with couch co-op. It wasn't deep, but it looked decent. The Super NES port added a bunch of slowdown, and slightly better music.
This 2023 remake removes the Super Mario 3-like overworld map nodes, but maintans the multiple paths. The gameplay is seriously broken, however. This game adds multiple weapons, while removing a couple of common ones from the Super Nintendo version. (Good luck finding a wheel in this game. They were all over the SNES game.) The game also allows you to charge your weapons by holding down the attack button. This makes most boss fights trivial.
