-There has been widespread shock at the violence. In Rotterdam, where police used water cannon against the rioters, the mayor signed an emergency decree, giving police broader powers of arrest.

-Human rights groups say they have seen a rise in settler violence in the occupied West Bank in recent weeks.

-Biden’s administration announced Tuesday it was restoring relations with the Palestinians and renewing aid to Palestinian refugees

-Biden said his order directing the Justice Department not to renew its contracts with privately operated criminal detention facilities is intended to ultimately end the department’s use of private prisons.
