Custom front ends have been around for a while and have normally consisted of either software modding your original xbox with xbmc (Xbox media centre), or hacking the Nintendo Wii to display all your games from a hard drive using Wiiflow.
Fast forward to 2023 and now we have the Zx Spectrum Next computer with a fantastic little OS that holds true to the original spectrum toast rack and Alan Sugar models.
So why would you want to change it? Well, because we can!
Enter the Next Launcher Ultimate. So what is it?
The Next Launcher is an expert game organiser that's a fully customisable
front end giving you over 1500 editable game slots as well as a host of additional features and applications.You can easily categorise menus, games, applications and utilities or documents supporting multiple Spectrum file types each having its own menu entry slot.
Menu pages can also be customised with a choice of colour schemes and background wallpapers from a sample range supplied with Launcher, or even add your own. Launcher Ultimate comes with an easy uninstall option if you decide it’s not for you. You can also have your Spectrum NEXT boot straight into Launcher or load into the original OS and then choose to select Launcher from the standard menu – the choice is yours.
Additionally Launcher Ultimate also supports the Wireless tape device that allows you to load games straight from your phone via bluetooth.
With constant updates and support its a great piece of software and urge any spectrum next or N-go owner to give it a try.
