NHL Doing 2020 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS With 24 TEAMS? Re: Igor Eronko, Travis Yost (NHL News & Rumours)
Igor Eronko broke the news on Twitter that he heard rumblings of the NHL considering a 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with 24 teams. According to Travis Yost, the most logical way to assort these teams would be the top 12 in each conference, with division leaders getting an automatic pass into the 2nd round. A 24-team playoff structure would also include a playout round, giving teams the right to face off against the division leaders.
Under this structure, the teams included in the playoffs would be the Vegas Golden Knights, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks, Minnesota Wild, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders, and the Florida Panthers.
