IGN details what it takes to bring down Shadar, the Dark Djinn in the first part of this epic boss fight in Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch on PS3.

During the first part of this fight, Shadar will be in his regular form (the same one you faced him in last time), and use many of his old spells. Pyre, Fell Wind and Bleak Midwinter all return, and he also introduces a new spell - Evenstar. This massively damaging attack summons a giant orb of pure dark energy, and will seriously injure anyone not on guard against it.
Use Mornstar (the spell) to bring him down, and make sure that you've got plenty of mana-restoring items in your inventory. This is just part one of a three part fight, and you'll be using a lot of MP to defeat this villain.
