What a crazy game. Fantastic though.

Gameplay: 8/10
Despite the attacks/combos being quite simple, combat was very satisfying. Traversal, being very frequent in this game, was also not too bad. The very little platforming you need to do is not fun though. There is plenty of ways to mix up the magic and "combat arts," but I feel even though the option is there any normal person would keep the block and dodge roll, meaning only two magic slots. Dark Blast is just good, so that will likely be in a slot, meaning that last slot can go to different magics, but I felt that Dark Lance was the best as it provided knock down chance and piercing damage. The boss encounters range from one that's ok, but frustrating up to great.

Story: 8.5/10
The story is completely nuts, but the characters follow through in the different endings. Quite good. But the LORE. I need to know more. Sidequests are also pretty interesting in how they can sometimes be a bit meta.

Sound: 9.5/10
I don't think there is a single bad song in this OST. Completely solid set of bangers that follow leitmotifs to mix everything together and prevent things from getting boring. The combat sounds had good impact. The voice acting varies from character to character.

Graphics: 9/10
Questionable outfits aside, I can't fault much about the graphics aside from NPCs looking very basic. Each town is unique and there are interesting, varying locales at the ends of the nice looking in-between areas.

Other Stuff:
If you beat everything on hard, there's not much more in terms of a challenge here outside of self imposed challenges, but there are completionist achievements if you're into that stuff.

Overall: 8.75/10
This game is quite fantastic and an enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this game, but not going for 100% like I did as some grinds are not worth it unless you like worthless internet badges like me (although I only 100% games I enjoy playing that much). Yoko Taro's stuff definitely has a unique charm to it that you can't really find in a lot of games. Even back to Drakengard 1, which I do not recommend playing at all.

I would play Nier Automata next, but Octopath Traveler 2 comes out tomorrow and it's not often I play game close to release.
