Night Striker S [Saturn] - Extra Game 1CC (non-default settings)
13Not really eligible for 1CCBBH because it's an imperfect home port. Night Striker S looks pretty good graphics-wise, but gameplay-wise a lot of the enemy timings are quite different from the arcade, making certain things easier and other things harder. One of the port's selling points is the "Extra Game", which are 6 brand new high-difficulty levels specifically made for the Saturn port. They're pretty rough! The recent RetroAchievements set required a 1CC on this on Very Hard difficulty, which I found to be quite tricky and forced me to do some savestate labbin' to figure out some means for survival.
As mentioned, this was done on the hardest difficulty setting, which makes enemy bullets faster, especially on bosses. But I also changed the fire rate from "Low" to "High" and the Recovery from "Middle" to "High" (restores 3 shields between stages instead of 2... an odd default when the arcade game only gives you 1 shield between stages). So it's a weird mishmash of game settings but I was just doing what I could to get that cheevo. Even with the extra shield recovery the back half of this new mode is no joke.
