NINJA GAIDEN 2 Black - Path of the Master Ninja - Chapter 17: Poisoned Blood

The final chapter is a bit of a rollercoaster. It starts out strong with fights against Fiend Genshin, one of my all time favorite bosses, followed by another battle with Elizebet. She hasn't changed much, she just gets a new move where she summons portals under your feet, which is essentially just another opportunity to flying swallow her out of the air and get a beefy stun combo on her. The interesting thing about Elizebet, though, is despite the fact that she's normally extremely evasive, the running YY attack with Enma's Fang will always hit her when she gives you an opening. It must be an unintentional oversight with her AI, but it turns her into a pretty normal and fun boss.
After that, things start to go down hill... You finally get to fight Dagra Dai, the ring leader of the Great Fiends, and he's probably the worst boss in the entire series. His lightning attacks don't follow your exact position, so if you get unlucky, they can just randomly hit you while you're dashing away. There are a couple of ways to deal with that. Jump in his face, do two X attacks with the scythe or Enma's Fang, shoot an arrow, dash on landing, and repeat. That works decently, but there's a chance the lightning can hit you (I found Enma's Fang most reliable for this strategy, but maybe it was luck). The other way is what I do here: just dash around for a bit, jump at him, and do an air XXX-Y combo with the Blade of the Archfiend. Again, the lightning can just randomly hit you while you're dashing around, but it seems less likely to happen. When Dagra Dai comes down, I just stay as close to him as I can. He has a couple attacks that do chip damage or just go straight through your guard, but staying on top of him makes then easier to avoid. His spin attack has kinda weird hit timing too, so just block and dash through once it breaks your guard. This fight is garbage so I just wanted to get through it as quick as possible. Wind Blade ninpo works well on fiends because it delimbs them, while the fireball ninpo usually won't one shot even weak fiends like the Van Gelfs.
Then things happen and you have to fight the Archfiend. In the original game, you could get into a rhythm and basically stunlock him. It doesn't work quite as well here, but he's still a pretty simple boss. Finally, after killing him, Ryu's blood drips onto his corpse and resurrects him in his complete form. And he's an easy boss. Just stay to the side of his hand and you'll only need to avoid his fist slams and grabs. The laser will never hit you in this game.
And that's the end! They have updated the game since I started this playthrough, most notably adding enemies to stages 13 and 14, which should improve them quote a bit. Ninja Gaiden II is very close to being my favorite game of all time, and no matter what form it's in, it's an absolute top tier action game.
Thank you to everyone who watched this playthrough! I'll continue posting Ninja Gaiden content all year. 2025 is the year of the Dragon Ninja.
